Nevis Rolls Out Red Carpet For Marylebone Cricket Club

The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) rolled out its welcome mat for the United Kingdom (UK) Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Tuesday 18, March with Cocktails at the Mount Nevis Hotel. 
 
Sports Minister Hon. Hensley Daniel conveyed the sentiments of the NIA that sports broke down barriers and promoted interpersonal and international relationships. He added that the NIA’s thrust was to use cricket to chart a new course for young people on Nevis.
 
Mr. Daniel referred to the adage that cricket was a gentleman’s game and crime and drugs were against the ideals of cricket.  “I believe sports builds character and personality among young people and that sports through cricket would help young people to reject anti social behaviour,” he said.

Outside Interest In Nevis’ Geothermal Plans

The buzz about the interest that has been shown in Nevis by other islands, strengthens the hand of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and reaffirms the faith that the people of Nevis placed in the NRP Administration to look after the affairs of Nevis.   That was the view of the Junior Minister responsible for Communications, Works and Public Utilities on Nevis Hon. Carlisle Powell during a recent interview with the Department of Information.

Mr. Powell indicated that the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Saba and Anguilla had showed interest in securing a deal with West Indies Power Nevis Limited (WIP) to purchase power from Nevis when it’s found and harnessed.

He indicated that in light of the mounting interest in the island’s natural resources and the many accolades registered by government officials from neighbouring islands was evidence of the trust placed in the Administration’ vision.

Nevis Police Patrol Enhanced With Bicycles

The Triathlon Federation and the Cycling Federation for Saint Kitts and Nevis in a brief ceremony on Friday March 07, 2008 handed over two Trek Bicycles to Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Ministry Mr. Joseph Wiltshire.  He accepted the bicycles on behalf of Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry for the Nevis Police Division.
 
Mr. Gregg Phillip a member of the organisation indicated that members of the joint Cycling and Triathlon Federation were inspired to donate the bicycles to show their expression of love for Nevis. 
 
He said “the organisation struggled with its financial resources and sacrificed the purchase of the Bicycles that are necessary for doing adequate policing in the community.”

Nevis Emergency Personnel To Receive More Training

The need to maxamise all available training was underscored when Permanent Secretary in the Premiers Ministry Mr. Joseph Wilshire told participants at an Emergency Care and Treatment workshop, that they should embrace every opportunity for training available to them.
 
He told participants at a brief opening ceremony of a week-long Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) sponsored workshop, hosted by the Nevis Disaster Management Office (NDMO) on March 10, 2008, at Long Point that he was hopeful that the training they received would propel them into a cadre of trained emergency care and treatment personnel.
 
“I wish to urge all the participants to be open, frank and involved. I am confident that the knowledge and the skills which will be acquired should enable all to perform the necessary task should the need arise.

Nevis Minister Supports Company Ordinance Bill legislation

Minister of Land and Housing in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Robelto Hector supported a Bill to amend the Company Ordinance of 1999, in a stated position made during the Nevis Island Assembly held on Thursday 28th February 2008.
 
Mr. Hector said he supported the Bill and was happy that the Mover of the Bill came before Parliament to seek support of his government ministers for stamp duties to be paid when shares are transferred.
 
The Bill as it stood required for amendments to be made to the 1999 Company Ordinance and Section 7 of the Amendment was used which showed where a $250 fee would be sought instead of the 1999 Bill that stipulated a $50 charged fee.
