The St. Lucia-based Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has announced the appointment of St. Kitts – Nevis born Ms. Shirley Skerrit-Andrew as the new OECS Ambassador to Brussels.

“I confirm the appointment,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Astona Browne.

Mrs. Browne said the new OECS Ambassador is to meet shortly with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Minister of International Trade, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris before traveling to Brussels to take up her appointment.

The OECS Mission in Brussels represents the interests of some OECS Member States to the European Union and along with Missions in Ottawa and Geneva forms part of the OECS programme of joint overseas representation.

“The world faces the prospect of the first Black American to hold the office of President of the United States of America. My (St. Kitts-Nevis Labour) Party believes very strongly that Senator Barak Obama is going to emerge next week as the first Black President of the United States of America and the newest President of the United States of America,” Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Wednesday in response to questions from reporters during his monthly Press Conference.

The Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian has appointed a five”“man Constituencies Boundaries Commission.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas at his monthly Press Conference on Wednesday said that the Federation’s Governor General “acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister after the Governor General consulted with the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Mark Brantley, and such other persons, appointed Mr. Anthony Johnson as Chairman of the Constituencies Boundaries Commission.”

“I also wish to inform you that on my advice as Prime Minister, the Governor General has appointed the Hon. Cedric Liburd and Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin as members of the said Commission,” said Dr. Douglas.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the increase in the minimum wage from EC$250.00 to EC$320 per week from November 1st is the highest in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

“On an hourly basis, we have increased the minimum wage from EC$6.25 per hour to EC$8.00 per hour,” said Prime Minister Douglas at his monthly Press Conference on Wednesday afternoon.

The minimum wage increase reflects a 111 percent rise in the minimum wage since the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party took office 13 years ago.
