Nevis Police Patrol Enhanced With Bicycles

The Triathlon Federation and the Cycling Federation for Saint Kitts and Nevis in a brief ceremony on Friday March 07, 2008 handed over two Trek Bicycles to Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Ministry Mr. Joseph Wiltshire.  He accepted the bicycles on behalf of Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry for the Nevis Police Division.
 
Mr. Gregg Phillip a member of the organisation indicated that members of the joint Cycling and Triathlon Federation were inspired to donate the bicycles to show their expression of love for Nevis. 
 
He said “the organisation struggled with its financial resources and sacrificed the purchase of the Bicycles that are necessary for doing adequate policing in the community.”

Nevis Emergency Personnel To Receive More Training

The need to maxamise all available training was underscored when Permanent Secretary in the Premiers Ministry Mr. Joseph Wilshire told participants at an Emergency Care and Treatment workshop, that they should embrace every opportunity for training available to them.
 
He told participants at a brief opening ceremony of a week-long Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) sponsored workshop, hosted by the Nevis Disaster Management Office (NDMO) on March 10, 2008, at Long Point that he was hopeful that the training they received would propel them into a cadre of trained emergency care and treatment personnel.
 
“I wish to urge all the participants to be open, frank and involved. I am confident that the knowledge and the skills which will be acquired should enable all to perform the necessary task should the need arise.

Nevis Police Must Fight Crime For Tourism To Grow

President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) Mr. Franklyn Brand underscored the importance of partnership to the police and crime fighting given the major investments made in the tourism industry and allied services in the Federation.
 
His comment came when he delivered the feature address at the fifth annual Police Appreciation Awards 2007 under the theme “Building on five years of success through Partnership” on February 16, 2008, at the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland, Nevis.
 
“This mammoth undertaking of maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, bringing criminals to justice and preventing and reducing crime can never reasonably be done by the police in isolation. Partnership with the police in crime fighting and prevention is imperative”¦partnership with the police, business community, religious organizations, community groups and government should be an accepted practice and not something to be lobbied for.

Nevis Island A Safer Tourism Destination

Top Cop in the Federation Commissioner Austin Williams hailed the accomplishments of the Nevis Strategic Planning Group in the Nevis Police Division for having faced the challenges associated with development and for the strategies they had implemented which had resulted in four consecutive years of success. Their proactive approach he said had made Nevis one of the world’s safest destinations.
 
The newly appointed Commissioner who is a Nevisian by birth, made the comment at the fifth Police Appreciation Awards 2007 which was held at the Old Manor Hotel, Gingerland on February 16, 2008.
 
“We have witnessed the emergence of new forms of crimes such as copyright violations, money laundering, counterfeiting and other financial and white collar crimes. We are also seeing the transformation of more traditional crimes such as murder, now murder for hire or involving firearms, prostitution is becoming more organized and substance abuse is now more than illicit rum, it has added to the list a large variety of psychotropic substances.

Nevis Premier Praises Police Force

Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry lauded the efforts of The Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force in particular the Nevis Division, for the work they have done on the island in the face of inadequate housing and equipment and he urged the people of Nevis to give the police their full support.
 
Mr. Parry praised the police during his remarks at the fifth Police Appreciation Awards 2007, which was held at the Old Manor Hotel, Gingerland, on February 16, 2008. The event was hosted by the Division’s Strategic Planning Group, under the theme “Building on five years of Success through partnership”.
 
“The Police have done a great job on the island of Nevis inspite of limited circumstances, inspite of the problem they have with housing, inspite of the problems they have with equipment. I was told that they do not have finger printing capacity”¦they do not have the equipment to take finger prints and these are some of the things that we have to work on to help our police to carry out their job.
