St. Kitts – Nevis CARIFTA Performance Boosts National Pride

The quality of the performances by local athletes and event organisers for the recently completed CARIFTA Games has added significantly to our Nation’s pride.

So said several spectators in reflecting on last weekend’s event. Mr. Ian Nisbett, a local taxi driver told SKNIS that all Kittitians and Nevisians should be proud of the positive feedback which had been received from visiting athletes and patrons.

The Honourable Richard Skerritt, Minister of State for Tourism, Sports and Culture, said the new Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium received high accolades from sporting officials in the highest levels of regional track and field.

He added that the success of the competition was the result of the collective efforts of a wide mix of individuals, organisations and institutions that came together to help make the 2008 CARIFTA Games the biggest and most exciting in its 37 year history.

Nevis Premier Asuures Hotel Workers Of Fair Treatment

Premier of Nevis and Minister of Tourism  the Hon. Joseph Parry told employees of the Four Seasons Resort that the Nevis Island  Administration (NIA) under his leadership stood for hard work, honesty and decency.  The Premier made the statement on Wednesday March 19, 2008, while he delivered an address at the Four Seasons Resort Employee Award ceremony. 
 
He said the NIA would support the employees and gave them the assurance that the Administration was proud of their hard work.
 
“I do not know why but sometimes I get the impression that workers in Nevis do not realise that the government is here for you.  I have a reputation in the past when I worked with the workers and helped the workers and I maintain that reputation.  This is what we stand for, we stand for hard work, we stand for honesty, and we stand for decency. I am here to represent you, I am here to serve you, I am here to make sure that you get a fair deal.
 
“We stand for respect and you have to give it to the persons who are in charge.  On the other hand, we demand that the persons in charge respect you.  We demand that you be treated equally to any other worker anywhere else in the world.
 
“We demand that you be appreciated, that the employers of the hotel understand that you are Nevisians! you are people and you should be comfortable in your workplace and you should be treated fairly and equally,” he said.

Nevis Receives Expert Advice On Female Incontinence

Florida based Urologist Dr. Brian Cohen conducted medical screenings at the Alexandra Hospital Friday March 22, 2008 for women with incontinence problems on Nevis.
 
Dr. Cohen indicated that he had pursued some extra training in the area of female bladder issues in Miami, Florida and he became familiar with Nevis from a long time colleague, Dr. Thwaites who had professional and friendly ties to the people of Nevis.
 
He said Dr. Thwaites had done some prostate screening on Nevis in 2007 and he was committed to focus on women’s health for 2008.  He said the request was made by Dr. Thwaites for him to travel to Nevis and conduct several hours of screening on women who were experiencing incontinence symptoms.

“I congratulate the employers, I congratulate the managers, I congratulate especially the Nevisian managers I want you [employees] to respect them as you respect foreign managers, I want you to treat them well.  I congratulate the supervisors, I congratulate the line workers, the landscapers all of you because it is because of the great effort of all of you why the Four Seasons has this great reputation.
 
“Everyone of you deserves your award, you have worked hard, you have done well, you have demonstrated that the people of Nevis can perform as well as anybody else in any other part of the world, I am proud of you I congratulate you!” he said.
