The St. Kitts Marriott is introducing reduced room rates and American Airlines discounted airfares for Florida residents.

According to Centredaily.com Business section, “due to economic hardship and increasing gas prices, travel has become a luxury most Americans cannot afford.”

In response to the demand for affordable travel options, the St. Kitts Marriott Resort has reduced room rates for Florida residents to US$99 per night and supported an initiative with American Airlines to offer discount airfare for travel from Miami.

“Concerns about the economy and increases in airfare costs are making it impossible for travelers, even for Florida residents who are so close to the Caribbean,” said Simon Bell, Director of Marketing for the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, Simon Bell.

“This sale will provide those residents with an affordable Caribbean vacation option, despite the difficult times,” said Belle.

The advancement of the young people in St. Kitts and Nevis is critically important in building a just, long lasting and fulfilling society.

So says Prime Minister and Minister of Sport, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas as he accepted two cheques totalling nearly US$400,000 for the development of sporting facilities in Challengers and Half Way Tree from the Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Rong-chuan Wu. US$284,000 is for Half Way Tree and US$115,000 for Challengers.

“All over the world and the Caribbean, including St. Kitts and Nevis, our young people are being challenged. We hear very often of the ills that they may be associated with. We hear very often that they are restless, that they are involved in serious crimes, that maybe enough is not said about them in terms of their true potential that needs to be developed and harnessed in the betterment of their country,” said Dr. Douglas, himself a former sports administrator.

Dr. Douglas said the financing which will see the development of sporting facilities in Half Way Tree and Challengers, will give the young people of both areas “the opportunity to build their sporting skills so that they can use their past time in a very worthwhile way.”

He repeated a comment made at last Saturday’s official opening of Football House, that there is money to be made from sports.

The Federal Government in St. Kitts and Nevis continues to take measures to prevent the twin-island Federation being used for money laundering activities and the financing of terrorist activities around the world.

“Any deficiencies that we detect as we prepare ourselves for the upcoming assessment by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force “CFATF” in September, 2008, my government will take measures to correct them and ensure that the Federation’s legal, law enforcement and regulatory regimes are in compliance with international standards,” said Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

“We have been to Parliament on several occasions to improve existing legislation so that we can seriously make a contribution in the proper regulation of our financial services sector and prevent the use of our jurisdiction in the committal of white-collar crimes,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

In preparation for the assessment, four task force members – two legal experts, one law enforcement and a financial expert have been trained to be mutual evaluation examiners by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force.
