St. Kitts – Nevis Accepts Further Taiwanese Assistance

The Governments of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan have agreed on further development assistance in the form of grants to fund various projects at the community level in the short term.

This was disclosed here Wednesday afternoon by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Denzil L. Douglas at his monthly Press Conference.

Dr. Douglas the projects to include the completion of the Bird Rock Athletic Stadium ““ the venue for next month’s CARIFTA Games to be held here for the very first time, during the Easter vacation; the Day Care Centre in St. Paul’s, the Upgrading the Halfway Tree Pavilion and Fencing of that facility, the fencing the Verchilds Secondary School, the construction of the new sporting facility for the people of West Farm and Boyd’s, the continuing upgrade of the Saddlers Sporting Complex, the upgrading of the Challenger’s Playfield and the construction of change and wash rooms and stands for those watching games being played and of the completion of the St. Peter’s Sporting Complex.

Bank Of Nevis Donates To Health Services On Nevis

Equipment to the tune of $21,000 was donated to the Community Health Services on Nevis by the Bank of Nevis at a brief handing over ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Administration Building, Charlestown on Tuesday February 26, 2008.
 
In accepting the gifts which include 6 Health-O-Meter scales, 6 examination lamps and 3 Dell computers was Minister of Health of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel recorded the Administration’s gratitude for the bank who partnered in its provision of preventative care for young children and in Port health.
 
“We are indeed grateful for the bank joining us to be able to, as it were do interventive and preventive care with our young children at the Health Centers, so that if there are problems with growth and development of children the equipment provided will be able to help us.  In so far as it relates to Port health and the global exchanges taking place with travel, it is very important for us to be able to track diseases.

Entrepreneurship A Way To Transform Nevis society

Minister of Social Transformation, Trade and Industry in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel, said entrepreneurship was one critical ingredient that could transform the society and the development of Nevis. 
 
Minister Daniel made the statement on Monday February 25, 2008 during a feature address to signal the start of a week long celebration of Nevis‘ first ever Small Business Week.
 
Mr. Daniel who also holds portfolios for Social and Gender Affairs, made reference to a report on small enterprise development in the region and said that it was critical to the development of women, single mothers, children and young people.  He said support for female business owners, single mothers and poor women who worked to help maintain their families had been found to be one markedly beneficial result of micro credit programme. 
 
These credit programmes he said could benefit and bolster these small enterprises which could yield benefits across a broad range of economies and help them to become more abundant, productive and resilient.

Nevis Government Launches 1st Small Business Week

The first ever Small Business Week was officially launched today Monday February 25, 2008, by Minister of Social Development, the Hon. Hensley Daniel at the Nevis Cultural Center. 
 
The week which runs until Friday February 29 under the theme, “Bridges to Better Business” is organised by the Small Enterprise Development Unit (SEDU) in the Ministry of Social Development, Trade and Industry in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
 
While delivering remarks at Monday’s opening ceremony Junior Minister in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Hon Dwight Cozier said that the Nevis Reformation Party led-Administration continued to work with small business persons on Nevis, since it believed that it was through strengthening the small business sector that the economy would flourish.

Thousands Of Offshore Companies Registered On Nevis

Premier and Minster of Finance the Hon. Joseph Parry told Diplomatic representatives that the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) had intentions to continue to ensure that Nevis maintained an Offshore Financial Services jurisdiction of the highest standard.
 
The Premier made the statement on Wednesday February 19, 2008, at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) in St. Kitts, when he addressed Diplomatic and Consular representatives accredited to St. Kitts and Nevis while they attended activities to mark the second annual Diplomatic Week hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on St. Kitts. 
 
The Nevis Finance Minister had been invited to present the topic “Nevis’ Strides in the Financial Services Sector” in which he gave a comprehensive outline of some of the activities that contributed to the growth of the industry since it had been introduced on the island in 1984.
