Visitors to the twin island Federation’s booth at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China are transported to famous sites such as Brimstone Hill, Bath Hotel and local beaches with impressive 3-Dimensional displays.
“You actually feel like you are in St. Kitts and Nevis. The visual impact is remarkable,” Senior Trade Officer, Samuel Berridge said during an interview aired on SKNIS Perspectives. He noted that he has not been to Shanghai personally, but has seen the impressions.
“I’ve seen it in 3-D format and I have seen pictures of our officials at the Expo. I’ve seen pictures of the people walking through the booth and you can see the awe on their faces. Even the picture of the beach looks real “¦ it makes you feel like you’re on vacation.”
However, it is no holiday for the local staff that has to work 12 hours per day, seven days per week in the booth which highlights much more than the offerings of sun and sand. Exhibits from local manufacturers including Caribelle Batik, and bottles of Brimley Gold and Belmont Estate rums are featured. A replica of a carriage from the St. Kitts Scenic Railway is a favorite as visitors feel like they are actually on the “Sugar Train” as it makes its way through parishes in St. Kitts.
For persons interested in the stable investment climate, a representative from the St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA) is on hand.
“The world is in Shanghai right now so we are not just targeting Chinese nationals; we are targeting people from around the world so there is a lot of paraphernalia being distributed and the participants are being exposed to what St. Kitts and Nevis has to offer,” Mr. Berridge stressed.
The Expo began on May 1 and runs up to October 31, 2010. About 190 countries and 50 international organizations are participating in the event. Massive crowds flock to the expo center with a daily average of about 350,000. Figures released by organizers revealed that the Expo site attracted a total of 405,600 visitors as of 7:00 p.m. yesterday (July 08). An estimated 60 million people are expected to attend Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.
