St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said the soon to be opened Pogson Medical Center reflects a thrust in the delivery of health care to the residents of Sandy Point and the surrounding communities.
“We have recreated under one roof, the Pogson Hospital on its existing location and combined with it, the Health Community Centre. To a large extent we have cost effectively provide and improve adequate medical and healthcare facilities and services for our people,” said Dr. Douglas, following a tour of the facilities.
Dr. Douglas, who was accompanied by Minister of Health, Hon. Rupert Herbert, District Medical Officer, Dr. Norgen Wilson and officials of the Ministry of Health and Public Works, said the new facility, which is still to be occupied and officially opened, could be duplicated at the Mary Charles Hospital in Molineux.
“We should be able to bring under one roof, the Mary Charles Hospital and also the Community Health Center in Molineux together,” said Dr. Douglas.
He pointed out that the Pogson Medical Center is a modern facility with an ambience that includes a completely new wall structure and new equipment that will bring comfort to those who are delivering and receiving healthcare services.
“It is an opportunity for the doctor, the medical optician and the obstetrician and gynecologist to provide the services in a more relaxed atmosphere. When you look at what is being provided in the community health section of the medical center, you have the dentist, the environmental health worker; they to a large extent with the supporting staff of the nurses should be very comfortable in this new facility,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
He said he was pleased the new facility has been built and expressed thanks Minister Herbert, officials of the Ministries of Health and Public Works, the contractors from the People’s Republic of China and the local workers for the part played in the near completion of the new Pogson Medical Center.
