The gala opening of the U.S. $7 million Caribbean Cinema of St. Kitts Ltd. Megaplex 7, was hailed by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor as a “huge step” which symbolizes “the continuing success story of investment and development” in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The acting Prime Minister made the comments on Tuesday, as scores of senior government officials, invited guests and excited patrons turned up to witness the opening of the state of the art seven screen facility, at Buckley’s Estate in West Basseterre.
“This project “¦ is a good example of the cooperation envisaged and encouraged between the Government, private sector and residents, which enables meaningful development to be pursued and completed “¦ for the good of all,” he stated, while acknowledging the role of Director and local partner Shervin White. “We laud and applaud this partnership of local and (regional) entrepreneurs and are indeed grateful that they chose our shores for investment, and the empowerment of our locals.”
To date 50 persons are employed at the entertainment facility which also offers services for parties, game room, eating establishments and other occasions. However, a second phase of the development is planned which will see the facilitation of other commercial ventures including a shopping center.
Minister Condor stated that Government is proud that it continues to fulfill its pledge to the population of empowerment and national development and stressed that they will continue to aggressively pursue these goals.
One catalyst of such development is the West Basseterre Bypass Road which runs adjacent to the new complex.
“The fact that there are two major developments happening here at the same time is yet another sign that St. Kitts and Nevis is truly in transition. Geared up for this brave new world of must do, can do, will do,” Minister Condor declared. “I encourage all, particularly residents of this area, to see the potential for business opportunities created by the presence of this highway as it provides a deeper appreciation for the surrounding environs and insights into the needs of the users of this road.”
He added that the provision of such amenities and the ongoing expansion of the infrastructure will greatly aid the offerings of the tourism product.
“Look around you,” he implored. “Respond to the vision. Make use of the opportunities provided. Run with pride, run with purpose towards the goal of self actualization. The best is yet to come,” the Deputy Prime Minister promised.
