Ahead of the 2010 Budget next week, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration takes the challenges that the country faces very seriously.
“We shall continue to fine-tune our fiscal policies, a part of which addresses the reduction in the national debt,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who is also Minister of Finance.
Dr. Douglas said the overall agenda of his fourth-term Labour Party Administration speaks to the continuing empowerment of the people, the promotion of local and foreign investment, and the continued strengthening of the education and health systems.
“We shall continue to provide the supportive framework for the productive sectors, and would support greater Private Sector and Public Sector dialogue on our economy. Supplementary support would also come via our active involvement at the levels of the OECS and the Caribbean Community. I feel confident that together we can successfully tackle the challenges we face,” Dr. Douglas told the launching of the local agency for the Jamaica-based Insurance Company of the West Indies.
Dr. Douglas urged the Financial Services Sector “not to see yourself as separate and apart from the solutions.”
“I implore you to take an active interest, individually and collectively, through positive engagement at the local and regional levels. In today’s environment, successful business is not only about your own business entity; it is also about the collective well being of the country in which you operate,” said the St. Kitts and Nevis Leader.
