Another accolade for St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

The Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Office of Alumni Relations and the UWI Association (Barbados) Chapter, in extending sincere congratulations to Dr. Douglas informed him that he has been nominated as the Alumnus of the month of January 2010 “on the occasion of your re-election on January 25th 2010 as Prime Minister for a historic fourth consecutive term and in recognition of your contribution to the social and economic development of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

“You now join the list of distinguished persons of this Honour Roll of UWI Alumni,” said the letter from the Office of Alumni Relations.

Dr. Douglas is the second national of St. Kitts and Nevis to receive the award which was established in April 2008. The first is Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, His Lordship Sir Hugh Rawlins.

Dr. Douglas is also the fourth Prime Minister of the Caribbean to get the award. Previous recipients are Hon. David Thompson (April 2008) on his election as Prime Minister of Barbados; Hon. Dean Barrow (May 2008) on his election as Prime Minister of Belize and Hon. Tillman Thomas (August 2008) on his election as Prime Minister of Grenada.

The award was launched in April 2008 and recognises the achievement of excellence of graduates of the Cave Hill Campus who have brought exceptional honour and prestige to the University through exemplary personal and professional service to their alma mater, their local, regional and or international community, such that they can be considered role models for current students of the UWI.
