Red flags are being raised regarding the government’s latest privatization deal and land initiative which when combined, could gross close to 300 million dollars.

During a ceremony held at the Marriott Resort last Friday, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Denzil Douglas signed the necessary documents to sell government’s equity interest in Cable and Wireless (St.Kitts – Nevis Ltd.) netting over EC$36 million.
Cable and Wireless (West Indies) purchased the shares from the government at $6.41 each and is required to make them available to the public at $5 per share, plus the usual transaction costs. However, only 30% of the 17% shares sold by the government will be made available to the public.

Nevis Visited By Indian High Commissioner

Premier of Nevis Hon Joseph Parry and Mrs. Parry joined His Excellency Mr. Avinash C. Gupta, High Commissioner of India for lunch at the Mount Nevis Hotel on Thursday September 27, 2007. The Indian official accompanied by his wife, visited Nevis to bid farewell to the government and people of Nevis, one month before the end of his three-year tour of duty in the Caribbean.
 
Premier Parry presented Mr. Gupta with a gift on behalf of the people of Nevis, in appreciation of his services on behalf of the government and people of India. He said the Indian government had close ties with Nevis because of their colonial links even as India had grown into a powerful nation of the world particularly in the field of technology and industry.
 
The Premier further stated that Nevis had associations with many Indians a number of whom have indicated their interest in conducting business on Nevis.

Australia says the people-to-people ties with St. Kitts and Nevis were strengthened during the recent 2007 Cricket World Cup in Basseterre earlier this year.

Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. John Howard in wishing warmest wishes to St. Kitts and Nevis‘ Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L.Douglas on this nation’s 24th Anniversary of Independence said both countries enjoy warm and friendly relations that are underpinned by “our shared sporting endeavors, especially cricket, membership of the Commonwealth,international for a such as the World Trade Organization and the United Nations.”

“Our people-to-people ties were strengthened further during the 2007 Cricket World Cup when the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis hosted the first of Australia matches at the Warner Park Stadium. I appreciate greatly the warmth which the Australian Team was received,” said Prime Minister Howard.

The United States,the Republic of China on Taiwan,Guyana, India and Cuba were among several regional and international States sending messages of congratulations on St. Kitts and Nevis’ 24th Anniversary of Independence.
