Residents of Challengers and surrounding communities have thanked the Government for the fulfilling its promise to continue investing in the socio-economic development of the people.

This was stressed during a ceremony marking the official opening of the newly refurbished Challengers Sporting Complex on the weekend. The upgrade saw the construction of a change room with bathroom facilities, a commentator’s booth with an external scoring clock, and an office, as well as a meeting, and storage room. The inclusion of bleachers and a bar was also for the comfort of spectators.

“The community of Challengers “¦ is again celebrating yet another improvement to the sporting and recreational facilities here at this ideal location,” said community stalwart Wilfred Welsh. “It is therefore with a feeling of pride and joy that I attend this function.”

Nevis Island’s Christmas Tree 2008

Charlestown, Nevis
December 10, 2008

Minister responsible for Community Development on Nevis Hon. Hensley Daniel pleaded to parents to commit to ensuring that their children take part in programmes tailored for youth development as they celebrate the 2009 Christmas season.

He sounded the call at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Memorial Square in Charlestown on December 8, under the patronage of Ms. Myrna Webbe, a retired Nurse of Government Road.

“I want to urge your participation and your involvement for the simple reason that if we do this, we will be sure that the kinds of behaviour that leads to crime and drug abuse and violence will be eliminated or significantly reduced from our community,” he said.

Mr. Daniel noted that during the Christmas season, young people and children in all homes should be set on a path that would make the community proud of them.
