NIA holds cocktail reception for Culturama participants

Charlestown Nevis (July 31, 2006) The newly elected Nevis Island Administration announced that it would continue to support the island’s most celebrated summer festival, “˜Culturama‘ and would introduce new avenues in the developmental thrust of the island’s culture.In that regard, the Administration hosted the annual Premier’s cocktail reception for the various participants in this year’s Culturama activities at the prestigious Four Seasons Resort.
 
The large gathering included members of the Nevis Island Administration and a cross section of the community in celebration with the Ms Culturama Queen, Talented Youth and the Leeward Island Queen contestants and the Mr. Kool and Senior Kaiso participants.
 
Premier of Nevis, the Hon Mr. Joseph Parry welcomed all to the reception.  He noted that it was a deserving honour to be among so many people.
 
“It is my expectation that Culturama 2006 would be as good as any,” added Premier Parry.  “We want you to come out in your numbers and giver your full support to all the shows.  Let us participate, let there be no disorder, no disagreement, let us fully enjoy ourselves.”
 
He told the guests that the people of Nevis had always been exemplary and enjoyed themselves without disorder and hoped that they would continue that trend.
 
Brief remarks were given by the Minister of Culture, the Hon Mr. Hensley Daniel while the ceremony was chaired by Executive Director of Culture, Mr. Antonio Liburd.
 
Meanwhile, on Sunday 30 the Miss Culture Pageant Committee hosted its swim wear competition at the Cultural Complex in Charlestown.  Five young ladies competed in three segments for a total of 95 points which would be carried forward to the finals.
 
They competed in Cultural Icons, the One Piece Swimwear and the Two Piece Swimwear segments before a packed audience.  The Masters of Ceremony were Mr. Carlisle Powell and Ms Patricia Claxton
