He made the announcement at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly in Charlestown on Wednesday November 14, 2007, ahead of the 2008 Budget presentation in December.

Mr. Parry said he had received information from the Ministry of Finance that the island’s finances from its current account position had shown growth for the period January to October 2007, as compared to the corresponding period in 2006.

“Madame President, if we looked at the current expenditure for the two periods in question, January 2006 to October 2006, the expenditure was $83.89million. Nevis’ Culturama 2007 Turned A Profit

Charlestown, Nevis
November 14, 2007

Culturama, Nevis’ premier culture festival since 1974, recorded its first profit in almost 10 years, a feat Minister of Culture in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Hon. Hensley Daniel said was achieved through prudent financial management. He made the disclosure on Wednesday November 14, 2007 at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly in Charlestown.

“Madame President the financial management of the festival is one of great concern and has been for many years and I seek therefore to report to this Assembly that based on the expenditure and income for Culturama 2007, there is a net profit for Culturama 2007.

“We [Nevis Reformation Party led NIA] have done this by bringing improved management and efficiency to bear on the festival and with our collective engagements, we have been able to turn from red into black. This year the government will not have to find additional money to pay for losses incurred by Culturama 2007,” he said.

Nevis Island To Explore Wind Power Options

Charlestown, Nevis
November 14, 2007

Nevis has taken steps to pursue another source of renewable energy in its efforts to remove an existing fuel surcharge. Junior Minister in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) charged with Public Utilities Hon. Carlisle Powell, disclosed at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on Wednesday November 14, 2007, that the Administration had been in discussions with a Canadian based company, which wanted to provide the island with an initial 1MW of power through wind harnessed energy.

He said that Nevis, like other Caribbean islands had been blessed with good winds, a resource which had gone unutilised because of the region’s heavy dependence on oil.

“We in this Government have also been in discussions with a firm named WINDWATT Power who is interested in providing us with an initial amount of 1MW of power through the harnessing of one of our truly neglected resources, wind. I want to remind the country that quite a bit of work was done by the Organisation of American Sates (OAS), the Germans among others and the potential is clearly evident on Nevis. During the course of this week, I hope to further the discussions with the principals of the company.
