Nevis Minister Suggests Following CAS Ideals

Minister of Social Transformation on Nevis the Hon. Hensley Daniel, called on the Nevis Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals (NASAP) to be guided by the ideals for which the Caribbean Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals stood.
 
Mr. Daniel made the call while he addressed a seminar at the Mount Nevis Hotel on Tuesday, October 16, 2007.  The seminar formed part of a week activities to mark the 10th anniversary celebrations of NASAP.
 
He told members of the Association that as the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) charted a new path to development marked by education, training and entrepreneurship, their positions should be regarded as one of trust. He said that they should establish, practice and promote professional standards at all times.
 
“Be ethical and understand in all business associations to promote the interest of the business in which you are employed; to exemplify loyalty and conscientiousness at all times and to maintain dignity and poise under all circumstances,” he said.

Nevis Minister Donates A/V Equipment To School

Students and staff of the Charlestown, Nevis Primary School (CPS) were happy recipients of two Magnovox DVD players on Monday October 22, 2007, a gift they received from Area Representative for Charlestown Hon. Robelto Hector.
 
During the presentation to Principal Mrs Alice Swanston at the school’s morning assembly, Mr. Hector noted that the gift was as a result of a request by a parent who alerted him of the school’s needs which was articulated during a Parent Teachers meeting.
 
“This is a request that came from a parent right after your last meeting. The parent came to me and told me what the needs of the school were. I thought that this was not an unreasonable request and so I decided to give the school two DVD players,” he said.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Monday that the “Christophe Harbour” development on St. Kitts’ Southeast peninsula has already brought considerable recognition to the island and has begun to generate huge amounts of economic activity.

Prime Minister Douglas, who was in New York for the official announcement of the multi-million dollar tourism project by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group said the “type of up-market tourism that we are now targeting and which this development represents, provides the most potential for the development of spin-off businesses on island, while simultaneously providing more jobs with better wages and salaries without the need for large numbers of hotel rooms, so they bring the maximum revenue to island without a huge detrimental environmental impact.”

Prime Minister Douglas and Minister of State for Tourism, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt were among officials when the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced that it will manage a new luxurious 125-room resort with 20 Residences at Mandarin Oriental on the island of St. Kitts in the British West Indies, which will open in 2010. The Group now has a portfolio of five resorts open or under development in the Caribbean region.

St. Kitts – Nevis On Par For Record Cruise Ship Season

The 2007/2008 Cruise Ship Season which officially begins next week is set to be the best ever in the history of the industry.

Over 425,000 cruise ship passengers are expected be on board the cruise liners which will either berth at Port Zante or the Deep Water Port or drop anchor in the Basseterre Roadstead.

According to the 2007/2008 Cruise Ship Itinerary released by the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) an estimated 426,302 cruise passengers should visit St. Kitts during the months of October 2007 to July 2008.

March is expected to be the best month with 81,013 passengers 42 ship calls; October sees 12,866 passengers from 6 ship calls; 54,453 passengers are expected in November on board 26 ship calls; 63,943 passengers are expected on board 34 ship calls in December, January lists a total of 68,038 passengers on board 35 cruise ship calls; while 54,320 passengers are expected on board 27 ship calls in February and 33,357 passengers on board 19 ship calls in April.

Nevis Road Projects Move On Down The Road

Works on two major road projects on Nevis are nearing completion and according to Junior Minister Hon Carlisle Powell, work has progressed satisfactorily.
 
During a recent interview with the Department of Information, Mr. Powell who is responsible for Public Works, public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Food and Water Control and the Environment, he gave high marks to works on the $15million Barns Ghaut/Cotton Ground Road and the $25million Island Main Road Phase III he said were both on schedule for completion by December 2007.
 
“The actual work in terms of the Jessups section [of road] should be finished by close to the end of the year. As a matter of fact, the project itself should be completed by the end of the year. This includes work on the road which will branch down into Cotton Ground and connect to the Island Main Road.
