Speaker of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, the Hon. Curtis Martin says the twin-island Federation desires to cement its relationship with the Republic of China on Taiwan.

Speaker Martin, who led a three-man delegation to National Day activities in Taipei, gave the Taiwanese President this commitment, when the delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Ma Ying-jeou.

“We reiterated that in the future, we will continue to make every effort to speak on behalf of Taiwan in support of meaningful participation for Taiwan in international organisations. A special appeal was made for President Ma to visit the Federation sometime in the near future. From all indicators, President Ma looks forward to being here,” he told the National Assembly during its recent sitting, in the presence of Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Rong-Chuan Wu.

The St. Lucia-based Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has announced the appointment of St. Kitts – Nevis born Ms. Shirley Skerrit-Andrew as the new OECS Ambassador to Brussels.

“I confirm the appointment,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Astona Browne.

Mrs. Browne said the new OECS Ambassador is to meet shortly with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Minister of International Trade, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris before traveling to Brussels to take up her appointment.

The OECS Mission in Brussels represents the interests of some OECS Member States to the European Union and along with Missions in Ottawa and Geneva forms part of the OECS programme of joint overseas representation.

Premier Parry made the statement at the recent Launch of the Brown Hill Communications Call Center.

Said Premier Parry:  “Although the Brown Hill Communications Ltd,  has not yet been in operation for a year, it will employ almost 100 persons by December. This is just another example of the Nevis Reformation Party led Nevis Island Administration’s commitment to bring economic growth and employment to the people of Nevis.”

“I am proud that this company has chosen Nevis; and I am proud of all that the Nevis Reformation Party has achieved in such short time,” commented Premier Parry.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Wednesday that if Democratic Presidential candidate, the Hon. Barak Obama fails to win the November 4th United States Presidential elections, he will have to go back to a school of politics to understand the American people.

“The world faces the prospect of the first Black American to hold the office of President of the United States of America. My (St. Kitts-Nevis Labour) Party believes very strongly that Senator Barak Obama is going to emerge next week as the first Black President of the United States of America and the newest President of the United States of America,” Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Wednesday in response to questions from reporters during his monthly Press Conference.
