The Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) led Nevis Island Administration(NIA) has made another manifesto  promise a reality, with the official opening of the St. James Drag Race Strip.

Premier Joseph Parry in declaring the new track open at New River, in the Parish of St.James, said the track was for the people of Nevis, particularly   the young people!

“My administration has displayed that we care for the young people of Nevis by facilitating training programs which were recently undertaken by 17 persons who received the opportunity to learn masonry, carpentry, plumbing and a host of other skills. Now we the (NIA) have facilitated a drag strip, to keep the young men occupied and skilled,” articulated Premier Parry.

The St.James Drag strip which came at a cost of EC$ 3million will provide an opportunity to business persons from Butlers, Bricklyn and Zion to gain tremendously from the race track as residents will be able to sell food, accommodations and mechanic services.

St. Kitts and Nevis commemorates National Heroes Day on Tuesday with Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas among dignitaries laying wreaths at the monument in honour of the Father of the Nation and First National Hero, the Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw.

The Ceremony begins at 9:00 A.M. tomorrow Tuesday 16th September (National Heroes Day ““ a public holiday) at the monument, which was unveiled in St. Paul’s, birth place of Sir Robert, on National Heroes Day, last year. Sir Robert, who was born on 16th September 1916, would have been 92 on Tuesday. Premier Bradshaw died on May 23rd 1978.

Following the inspection of a Guard of Honour comprising members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the Cadet Corps, the bio of the St. Paul’s-born National Hero, who also served as Chief Minister and First Premier will be read by Mr. Crios Freeman.

Prime Minister Douglas, a cousin of Bradshaw and who also hails from St. Paul’s, will deliver brief remarks.

Classics by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and others echoed through the Sugar Bay Club on Wednesday evening, as the United States Embassy partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture in observance of 25 years of Independence in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Internationally renowned pianist Roman Rudnytsky of the United States entertained an appreciative crowd at a piano recital held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency the Governor General. Rudnytsky, who has performed in more than 80 countries worldwide, told the gathering that he has been to St. Kitts several times before and always enjoys return visits.

His stay here is facilitated through a public diplomacy programme offered by the U.S. Embassy in a bid to expose persons from different countries and region to positive facets of American culture.
