St. Thomas’ Primary school held a short celebratory event to mark the opening of the school’s new wing on Monday, March 15th, 2010.

Premier of Nevis, Minister of Education and Area Representative, Hon. Joseph Parry who joined the celebration told those present that they had elected him to serve and deliver.

He was joined in the celebration by teachers, pupils, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), the staff of the Education Department and other special guests to celebrate the completion of the extension programme.

The construction was facilitated by MacGyver Construction who provided the school with two new 6th grade classrooms.

The Premier, along with former headmistress of the school Miss Earlene Maynard cut the ribbon to officially open the new wing.  She said she was impressed with the new facility.

“I am really pleased to be here today to mark this special occasion for St. Thomas’. The population of St. Thomas has grown significantly over the past few years and with more housing planned for the area, the school urgently needed more space.

“I am confident that this investment will have a positive impact on the school as well as providing the surrounding community with excellent facilities,” she said.

In giving brief remarks at the opening, President of the PTA, Mr. John Hanley commended the Nevis Island Administration for having heard the cry of the school and taking quick action.

” I do believe school is the foundation for your future and I hope this new extension, with all its new facilities, will contribute to the whole morale of the staff, parents, and of course the pupils,” concluded Mr. Hanley.
