Nevisian Premier the Hon. Joseph Parry said, the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) has placed great emphasis on housing development on Nevis, in order to meet the demands of 765 applications for housing.

He made the statement during his radio program In Touch with the Premier, which aired on Choice Radio 105.3 FM, ZIZ Radio and WINN FM on Tuesday.

Mr. Parry informed listeners that under the housing program developed by the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP)-led NIA, the construction of homes commenced throughout the island since January 2007.

“In Shaws Road 19 homes have been constructed while in Craddock Road 16 newly developed homes were received.  Twelve houses were built in Maddens and 19 homes were placed in Stoney Grove.”

According to the Premier, about 74 private homes have either been scheduled to start construction or have been constructed. He also stated that preparation had also been made for the construction of additional affordable homes in Hamilton, Maddens, Zion, Jessups, Hickmans and Cotton Ground.

“As the Construction of Housing continues by the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), employment of some 40 plus contractors, over 20 painters, 5plus plumbers, six cabinet makers and 12 electricians have in turn provided employment for some 400 workers on Nevis,” said Premier Parry.

During the program, Premier Parry said that the Government had not only made the affordable homes available but had assisted with providing a loan facility for Civil Servants and other financial plans to make homeownership a reality.

“My Government believes that it is important to empower people through the acquisition of property,” said Premier Parry. He pointed out that his governing NRP was a party of progress and prosperity.

“We believe in the empowerment of the ordinary person,” he said as he reaffirmed his government’s continued commitment in response to the demands for housing on Nevis.
