Senior Citizens Lunch With Premier Parry
Charlestown, Nevis
December 21, 2009
Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry, gave Christmas cheer as he had lunch with Senior Citizens of the St. Thomas’ Parish at Bananas Restaurant in Church Ground on Thursday, 17th December.
The Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon, organized by the Jessups Community Club, was headed up by Mrs. Veronica Ferguson. She expressed happiness that the Senior Citizens from Barnes Ghaut, Jessups and Cotton Ground took part in the joyous occasion.
Greetings were delivered by the Hon. Joseph Parry who registered his pleasure to be among the elderly of St. Thomas’ Parish where he came from. He reminded them that they too had shared in the development of Nevis and thanked them for the virtues they continued to impart on the younger generation of Nevisians.
“Senior Citizens have been responsible for ensuring that Nevis maintains the level of development that the island has experienced,” said Premier Parry.
Under the Nevis Reformation Party-led Administration, the elderly have been supported with day trips, senior programs and celebration of birthdays on NNC television. The Premier has said on numerous occassions that the elderly need to be uplifted and celebrated for their contributions to the society.
“Development is not only about material things, but it also stems from the virtues and values that our senior citizens have instilled in us, to make us what we are today,” he said.
