Tourism Activities For The Summer On Nevis
The Nevis Tourism Authority is actively targeting both international visitors and the Caribbean market to boost tourism activities. Alexis Arthurton, the Caribbean Sales Manager at the NTA, reported a successful mission to Barbados from May 10 to 14, 2023.
“The Barbados trip was successful,” Arthurton said. “We raised awareness and educated the Bajan public about Nevis’ offerings, summer events, accommodations, and travel options. Hundreds of Bajans visited our Nevis booth at the Sheraton Mall, many motivated by my radio interview on SLAM 101.1FM.”
Arthurton emphasized the importance of fostering relationships with other Caribbean islands to attract regional visitors. “Although we are one Caribbean, the NTA believes in meeting and educating our Bajan counterparts to foster better relationships. This helps bridge gaps and encourages islanders from both destinations to visit each other,” he noted.
The mission aimed not only to sell Nevis as a destination but also to promote summer tourism activities such as “A Nevis Summer” package. This includes stays at local hotels like The Hermitage, Four Seasons, Montpelier, Mount Nevis, Oualie, and Golden Rock, as well as participation in events such as the Nevis Mango Festival, St. Kitts Music Festival, St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week, Nevis Culturama, and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Arthurton highlighted the convenience of new direct flights from Barbados to St. Kitts, which create more travel opportunities for Nevis. “This new market promises great potential. The flights from Inter-Caribbean Airways are doing well, and we expect continued improvement as we promote Nevis,” he said. “Visitors can arrive, transfer to Reggae Beach, and reach Nevis in just five to six minutes. It’s seamless.”
While in Barbados, Arthurton promoted Nevis through various channels. “I did a radio interview on SLAM 101.1 FM discussing tourism activities such as the Nevis Mango Festival, and our return as the 2019 regional champions. We hope to see great support from the Bajan community,” he stated.
On May 12, Arthurton and his team engaged with visitors at the Sheraton Mall, providing face-to-face information about Nevis and offering samples of mango cuisine from the Mango Festival. “We interacted with everyone who approached our desk, giving them a taste of Nevis through our cuisine samples,” he said.
On May 13, Arthurton hosted a business cocktail meeting with travel agents and media houses to further promote Nevis. “We showcased our hotel accommodations and other offerings to let them know what Nevis has to offer,” he explained.
The NTA’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance regional tourism and attract more visitors to Nevis by highlighting its unique offerings and events.
