Nevis Government To Host Crime Symposium

The Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry described the upcoming Crime Symposium on March 10, 2011 as a key means which allowed various groups on the island to draw up strategies that would deter crime on Nevis.

The Symposium will be held at the Red Cross building on Chapel Street in Charlestown on Thursday, March 10th, 2011 from 8:00 am – 12:30 pm.  Mr. Parry made the announcement during his weekly radio broadcast of “In Touch with the Premier”, which airs every Tuesday on ZIZ Radio and Television, Winn Fm, KYSS FM, Choice 105.3 FM and Nevis Television (NTV).

“The major objective of the Symposium is to bring together the police, religious leaders, teachers, guidance counselors and senior political leaders with a view to share their experiences in regard to the problems in our schools and the society,” said the Premier.

According to the Premier, the Crime Symposium will sensitize all the participants in regard to the need for action, state measures which are being implemented to address problems that the community faces and to establish a program for implementation.

“It will not only address the concerns of the residents of the island about crime, but the symposium will also seek to engage stakeholders in discussion and review of strategies and their implementation at all levels of the community, “ said Hon. Joseph Parry.

Preparations for the symposium are being coordinated by the Premiers Ministry.

Since the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) came to government in July 2006, the NRP led Nevis Island Administration has been actively fighting crime and has facilitated the construction of new police barracks to increase a greater police presence on the island. It has also provided the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Nevis Division with vehicles for greater mobility and provided surveillance cameras through the assistance of Taiwan.
