Nevis’ FCCA Poster Entry By Kelsia Liburd

Nevis placed second in the Caribbean in the 2009 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation Children’s Environmental Poster Contest.
The Ministry of Tourism announced on Monday February 9, that eleven (11) year old Kelsia Liburd of the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School, Gingerland had placed second overall in the Caribbean in the junior division of the regional poster contest.
As winner in her age group, Kelsia will be awarded a cash scholarship of US$1500. Her school will also receive a cash award in the same amount.
Kelsia submitted an impressively creative eye catching poster entitled “The Environment Through My Eyes”.
The overall winning entries came from Jamaica in the 12 and under category and Martinique in the 13-16 age category.
D’Dron Griffin of Basseterre High School, St. Kitts captured second place in the senior category of the contest.
The FCCA Children’s Environmental Poster Contest is an annual activity aimed at promoting and stimulating environmental awareness among Caribbean students, while educating younger generation on the importance of environmental protection.
