Kevin Adams – Mr. Kool Contestant 2012
Charlestown, Nevis
July 22, 2012
It’s not what you do, but how you do it!
Born on February 18th, 1985, to mother, Edena Adams and father, Esmond Adams is Mr. Kool participant number four, Kevin Alphonso Adams.
As the middle child of his family, Kevin believes he can be both an older brother to his younger sister thereby ensuring she have someone to look up to and have someone to look out for her. On the other hand, Kevin is the kid brother to his older brother. This, Kevin believes is great as he has a positive role model to look up to in addition to his father who he admires greatly.
Positive thinking, handsome and charismatic are just a few words one can use to describe this young man. Being a resident of St. Kitts, Kevin grew up in Basseterre, in a small community called Irish Town, easily described as “the ghetto”. Being a young man of this community was no easy task for the Mr. Kool participant. Luckily, with the help of several people who loved this special young man and through various distractions, Kevin avoided falling onto the wrong path, unlike so many of the youths today.
Having such a determined attitude and encouraging parents, Kevin prevailed and completed both high school and college.
After graduating college, Kevin and his family moved to a new location and settled in nicely into their new home which allowed him to be in a more relaxed environment in New Road, St. Peters. Having the born skill to work well with his hands, Kevin pursued a career in carpentry: transforming wood into strong unbreakable structures.
Just like wood, he has transformed his body. Being a young man of different talents, Kevin followed his ambition and three short years later joined his mentor, his father, in establishing the family business which is currently known today as “Murphy’s Tire Sales & Services”. Kevin hopes to eventually take over the business and take it to the next level of tire repairs and mechanical services on St. Kitts, although someday he still hopes to include his other dream of doing what he loves most, the art of carpentry work.
Of course all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys working out at the gym, listening to music, modeling and occasionally hanging out with his friends where he tends to be the life of the party. Yet, his real passion is working out in the gym as much as his free time allows.
Attending the same gym as his chaperone Beko Lapsey is an inspiration. Being able to work with someone who shares the same interest in physical training gives him the advantage to advance his knowledge in physical health and fitness which teaches him a lot about taking care of his body.
Kevin has proudly adopted his life motto “It’s not what you do, but how you do it” and sees his body as a temple which he must take care of, protect and strengthen if he wants to live a long and healthier life. Because of this motto, he continuously works out at the gym and eats right so that he can live a long, healthy life. “Working out is one of the best ways of training, not only the body, but also the mind,” he says.
Kevin would like to inspire all those persons who think “gyming” means getting large. He would also like to advise all, both the young and old, to give it a try. To the younger males, he says, “Who knows? Maybe one day this might very well be the fuel to your fire in entering the next Mr. Kool Contest.
You are invited to the Nevis Cultural Complex on Sunday 29th July 2012 to see Kevin Adams vie for the 2012 Mr. Kool title.
