A ground breaking ceremony to start construction of the first home of the US$2 billion Christophe Harbour Development on St. Kitts’ Southeast Peninsula is set for this week.
Prime Minister and Ministr of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Ministers of his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Cabinet will join senior management representatives from Christophe Harbour at Sandy Bank Bay for the ceremony on Thursday 19th March, 2009, at 10:00 A.M.
Construction of the first home comes as work continues on the US$25 million Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole championship golf course.
When completed, Christophe Harbour’s 2,500-acre development will encompass a mega-yacht harbour and marina village, hotels, ocean front homes, luxury villas, hotel residences and the golf course and shops surrounded by six pristine beaches.
The development will result in the creation of an incomparable seaside resort that will bring the twin islands to the forefront of destinations across the world, and revolutionise luxury travel in the Caribbean.
Chairman of Kiawah Development Partners, American Charles Pinckney (Buddy) Darby said late last year that the global economic conditions will not deter his company from moving forward with the Christophe Harbour Development.
“We are not going to let economic conditions deter our enthusiasm for this project,” said Darby at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 18-hole championship golf course.
Darby, who has had primary responsibility for Kiawah’s development activities, overseeing all operations in the development of Kiawah Island, a 10,000-acre sea island located 21 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, expressed confidence that with “golfing in our blood, this course at Christophe Harbour will be one of the finest, if not the finest in the Caribbean.”
Prime Minister Douglas speaking at the golf course ceremony said it will be among the finest in the world, and would become the centerpiece of the massive resort development project that will make St. Kitts and Nevis, one of the most desirable tourist destination in the Caribbean, and indeed, in the entire world.
