Practical applications of renewable solar energy are available for sale at the duty-free Speedtech Energy outlet at Port Zante.

It is the first store in the Federation that is dedicated to solar power and General Manager of Speedtech Energy Lucas Chiu, explained that they hope to influence the people across St. Kitts and Nevis and the region, to go green, by using solar powered products.

At present, the store has available for sale desktop lamps, portable fluorescent lights, Christmas lights and USB chargers.

Mr. Chiu promised that new products will be available shortly.

“We will be bringing solar fans, ice-boxes, mini cookers and radios,” he said. “All these products will be will be made in St. Kitts and more citizens would be given employment within the stores.”

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas said the opening of the store was representative for the future development of twin island Federation.

“Future development not only in terms of the realization of St. Kitts and Nevis being the first totally sustainable island state,” he stated. “But because also of our declared determination to make this country powered, through green economy.”

He mentioned that this opening is a clear demonstration of support by the Government and business community of the Republic of China (Taiwan), in support the endeavors, objectives and goals for the potential growth of the Federation.

According to the Prime Minister, Port Zante is being presented with the first duty free solar shop and explained that the market is broad.

“The outreach is no longer mainly the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he stressed. “It is to showcase to the world, through 900,000 tourists who comes to our shores, that St. Kitts and Nevis is truly going green.”

Dr. Douglas appealed to the public to lend their support and patronize the store in order to achieve the lofty goals for the future development of the citizens and country on a whole.
