The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration will move forward several projects aimed at increasing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the continued transformation of the economy.
“We expect that these projects will dramatically advance the process of transforming our economy from the pre-2005 sugar-based economy to a new and vibrant service-oriented economy with a vast array of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for our people,” said St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
He said it was fortunate there is an impressive array of projects at various stages of implementation that will dramatically increase the growth rate and open up new entrepreneurial and employment opportunities for nationals.
Prime Minister Douglas said his Government will therefore move with great haste to advance the La Vallee Greens Project and the Kittitian Hill Projects as they are critical and are situated in the midst of rural communities that were significantly affected by the demise of the sugar industry.
“We have already seen how the Beaumont Park Development Project is impacting on job creation and entertainment to date,” said Prime Minister Douglas as he addressed thousands at the Swearing in of his Labour Cabinet on Sunday.
He said his administration looks forward to the completion of the Ocean Edge Resort, the Silver Reef condominiums, the Sunrise Rise Villas, the Marriott Vacation Club and the continued and accelerated implementation of the Christophe Harbour Project Development and the Park Hyatt Project.
Dr. Douglas said he expects the construction of at least three five-star hotels on the Southeast Peninsula and an increase of cruise ship passenger arrivals to over 1 million through construction of a new pier at Port Zante and the renewal of the town of Basseterre during his government’s new five-year term.
“Our new economy will also deliver and export services in the finance and banking, information technology and telecommunications, but we will not abandon, agriculture, manufacturing and handicraft production. We view agriculture, in particular, as critical to food security and our development generally. We intend therefore to implement a plan that would dramatically enhance our capacity to feed ourselves and our many visitors before the end of this new term in office,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
