The arrival of the inaugural Delta Airlines direct flight from Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International to St. Kitts on Saturday 16th February is a significant milestone in the Federation’s efforts to penetrate the United States travel market.
Apart from its obvious benefits, in terms of expanding access to the Federation from non-traditional ports in the United States, the flight would spur economic advancement in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“The efforts employed by the Ministry of Tourism in contracting airlift to and from the Federation have been strategic and deliberate,” one tourism official said, “As the tourism product develops in terms of increased and improved accommodations, upgraded infrastructure and increased entertainment choices, it becomes easier to get major airlines to come onboard.”
He added that conference and sports tourism have been recorded among those activities which have “taken off” in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis emphasizing that successful tourism takes great investment but results in great economic rewards.
The Delta flight will accommodate an increasing number of visitors who travel to the Federation from that area of the United States and who previously had to travel via Miami, New York or San Juan. Delta and government officials will speak to the media at a conference on the arrival.
