Minister of Consumer Affairs, Dr. Hon Timothy Harris is reporting a general decrease in several food items on supermarket shelves.

A memorandum produced by his ministry and submitted to cabinet indicates that the removal of consumption tax from a significant number food items has decreased and stabilized the prices of these items over a 6 month period.

According to the Post Cabinet Briefing these items which vary from supermarket to supermarket include chicken wings, chicken drumsticks, spaghetti and macaroni, cheddar cheese, sardines, canned tuna and butter.

Minister Harris reported that Price Control Officers had carried out routine inspections at various supermarkets and collected data on items included in the Basket of Essential Goods established by law in 2007.

Consumers are encouraged to do comparative shopping to get the best deals, and to purchase fresh local produce where it is available.
