“AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases” is the topic for discussion at the St. Paul’s Community Centre on Thursday 19th February.
It is organized by the Young Labour Group of Constituency Six and begins at 7:30 P.M.
Public Relations Officer, Ms. Narissa Henry said the discussion will be led by District Medical Officer, Dr. Akin Oduntun.
“It is part of our outreach educational programme to educate the young people and all the residents of this Constituency from Newton Ground to Harris’ of the danger posed by this epidemic that can cause stress to the economic and social development not only of this area that we live in, but St. Kitts and in fact the entire Federation,” said Henry.
She said that Thursday’s discussion is the first major event of the year for the group.
Next month activities include a discussion on Managing Money. “We have invited someone from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to come to speak to us on ways in which we can manage our money,” said Ms. Henry.
“One of our aims is to foster positive growth and development in our community, and we have been working with our young people to become productive in the society,” she said.
She said that events held by the Young Labour Group include assisting in the distribution of food to the senior citizens and giving moral support to the area’s Parliamentary Representative, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
“We have been accompanying him on his regular walk-thrus in the constituency. We actively participate in his monthly Health and Wellness Walk and we meet with him to discuss issues affecting the constituency and identify areas that can be improved to enhance the quality of life of the people he serves,” said Henry, who noted that plans are in progress to celebrate Dr. Douglas’ 20th Anniversary as the elected representative for Constituency #6.
