During his remarks, the well-known government minister made a special appeal to young persons, in hopes that they may be guided by positive resolutions in the upcoming year.

“We ask that you use the season to reflect: reflect on your achievements and think of your goals for 2011. I ask that you strive to achieve them and let the New Year be a time of new beginnings,” he pleaded.

As the NIA’s Ministry of Social Development honoured former businessman Mr. William Griffin, Minister Hector congratulated him [Mr. Griffin] and recognised the work and contribution of the island’s elderly.

“We think with pride of our seniors this Christmas and the joy we have experienced in sharing with them through various community efforts designed to cheer them all on,” Mr. Hector said, adding that their contributions have “helped to build the nation, thereby making it the Nevis it is today.”

In commenting on the status of Nevis’ economy, Minister Hector assured those gathered that despite the worldwide recession, they could still “look to the future and believe that a brighter day is on the horizon for the island.”

“Just as the wise men saw the star, we anticipate that there is a beautiful star of Bethlehem that is shining in our hearts and is already shining on the economic horizon of this country,” Minister Hector said.
