One-to-One Laptop Project Moves Ahead

The Partners in Learning Programme ““ a partnership between the Ministry of Education in St. Kitts and Nevis and Microsoft Corporation is about to “take flight.”
Permanent Secretary Osmond Petty disclosed that the project, which will undergird Government’s I-Literacy One-to-One Laptop Project, will assist the Ministry in integrating Information and Communications Technology into the classroom experience.
Commenting on the Ministry’s excitement, Mr. Petty said the Partners in Learning Programme is one of the supportive programmes that will help to catalyze Government’s long term vision for innovative schools, innovative teachers and innovative students.
While elaborating on the concept, he revealed that the innovative schools concept involved providing schools, governments and partners with resources, training, expertise and technological groupings to help prepare students for life and work in the 21st century.
The concept of innovative teachers, he added was the provision of tools, forums and resources that build communities of practice, support and collaboration on access to quality content and challenge educators to integrate ICT into teaching and learning in a meaningful way.
The Permanent Secretary stated in conclusion that innovative students have been identified by his Ministry as those empowered to use ICT in their school work and learning.
Other aspects of the project include improving administration in schools; cultivating leadership, collaboration and teamwork as well as providing parents and guardians using the information technology framework.
