A ground breaking ceremony for construction of the first phase of the marina as part of the multi-billion dollar Christophe Harbour is set for Thursday.
Director of Planning and Community Relations, Mr. Ellis Hazel said the ceremony will begin at 10 “˜o’ clock in the morning on site at the Christophe Harbour Development on the Southeast Peninsula.
St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has been invited to speak at the ceremony.
Mr. Hazel said the contract for phase 1 of the project has been awarded to St. Kitts Marine Works, owned by Kittitian Reginald “Reg” Francis.
It includes excavate of the megayacht basin – 34 acre little salt pond to a depth of 20 feet and creation of 42 new and unique harbourfront lots using fill from the lower golf course area and opening of the channel to Ballast Bay after the work in the pond is complete and bring the channel to the depth appropriate for megayachts.
He said the first 15 of the new harbour lots will be ready for sale in April and designs for the first megayacht docks are in progress, and that work will commence when this phase of excavation is complete.
St Kitts Marine Works has installed the largest marine travel lift in the region, and has been involved in numerous marine and earth-moving projects on St Kitts including the revetment of the bulkhead at Port Zante.
Work continues on other aspects of the Christophe Harbour Development including homes at Sandy Bank and the Tom Fazio-design golf course.
Christophe Harbour, described as “an Incomparable Resort for St. Kitts,” will be a luxury resort that will propel St. Kitts to the forefront of high-end tourism in the Caribbean. Christophe Harbour Development Company Limited (CHDC), a venture led by Kiawah Development Partners (KDP), is the master developer for Christophe Harbour.
CHDC, Fazio Golf Course Designers, Inc., and several prominent hotel, real estate, architecture, environmental, and engineering companies have joined forces to create an incomparable master-planned resort.
Christophe Harbour, located on the more than 2,500-acre southeastern peninsula of St. Kitts, is planned to include a mega-yacht harbour and marina as well as an impressive collection of restaurants, shops, boutiques, five-star hotels, oceanfront and hillside homesites, villas, and a must-play Tom Fazio championship golf course.
