Independent Poll Conducted By CADRES
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis

A poll which found that 60 percent of the people believed that the electoral boundaries in St. Kitts and Nevis are flawed and needed to be realigned, was conducted by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services Inc. (CADRES).
This was disclosed on Friday by Minister of State for Information, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty on the Federation’s only early morning talk show “Journey'” on Sugar City Roc.
Mr. Carty was responding to comments by Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Mark Brantley, who indicated he had no information of the authors of the poll.
The poll which was conducted early this month found that 58 percent of the people believe that the boundaries are flawed and need revision.
A majority believe that the boundaries should be changed before the elections and a similar majority understand that boundary changes are part of the commitment by the Government to complete the electoral reform process.
The results of the poll was released hours after the people of St Kitts and Nevis overwhelmingly rejected a call from the opposition party on St. Kitts for the next elections to be held on the existing boundaries.
PAM leader Mr. Lindsay Grant had predicted thousands would respond to his call and create “an earthquake on Church Street,” but only 200 persons marched with the PAM leadership.
Political analysts say the small and disappointing turnout confirmed the results of a poll that found Kittitians and Nevisians want changes to the boundaries before the next general elections.
