Nevis will have its share of representation for the first time, at the 42nd anniversary of the American West Indian Labour weekend celebrations in New York, when Culturama Road Match champions Odisi, performs from Friday night.

Tour Manager Mr. Mr. Cory Tyson said in an interview with the Department of Information prior to the band’s departure earlier this week pointed to some key events on the youthful Brick Kiln band’s itinerary.

“We have a line up of gigs with a parked schedule starting on Friday the 4th which includes a number of dances and stage shows. We will be doing the annual Nevis Dance that’s on Saturday at a club in Manhattan.

“We will be doing the Caribbean Splashdown alongside some of the Caribbean’s top artists like Toxic and Burning Flames and we are looking forward to that one it’s going to be a big stage show,”.

He referred to the Nevis Island Administration as a platinum sponsor whose assistance helped to make the band’s first international tour a reality. According to Mr. Tyson the Administration had given financial support and also tax exemptions.

Notwithstanding, Mr. Tyson noted that although the band would be promoting Nevis’ music through their most recent CD “See De Sweetness Dey”, they had planned to use the opportunity to join the island’s tourism officials to promote Nevis as a leading tourism destination.

€œMost importantly we are going to be marketing Nevis not only for Culturama but as a premier tourist destination and vacation spot, that’s going to be first and foremost, Nevis is the place to be.

“We have Odisi one of the good things coming out of Nevis and we have a bunch of other good things happening in Nevis so [want them to] come on down,” he said.

Mr. Tyson also gave advice to other local bands cited that they should look at Odisi’s international tour as an inspiration to work hard with the knowledge that they too would be rewarded like Odisi.

Meantime, Band Leader Mr. Kenny “Easi” Warner called for greater support for the local bands.

“Market the local bands, invest in them and send them out because the local bands here are capable of doing that.

“This trip is a big boost for Odisi and we want to say thanks to all the sponsors and everybody and we won’t let them down we will represent big time,” he said.
