Thursday afternoon’s ground breaking ceremony for the St. Kitts Cooperative Credit Union housing programme is evidence of the high level of confidence in the local economy and a demonstration of the healthy investment climate that exists in the twin-island Federation.
Speaking at his monthly Press Conference on Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Douglas said the Credit Union was breaking ground on Thursday afternoon for its Scenic Housing Development on 29 acres of land in the hills of St. Peters that will provide its membership an opportunity to fulfill a dream of owning their own homes.
Prime Minister Douglas said his Government was working closely with the Police Credit Union to undertake a similar housing programme for its membership.
He said also that St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Insurance Company will be developing land in the West Farm area for a housing programme. The St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Board is about to undertake an upscale housing programme on 80 acres of land in the Dewars area.
“What the government is doing is to encourage important institutions in this country to buy the land and provide housing for our people, especially at the middle income level since the government continues to concentrate at the lower income level through the national housing corporation,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
“My government continues to ensure that we provide our people with adequate opportunities for home ownership,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
The St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Trust financed the Ocean Gardens Housing Programme at Camps and TDC, its Sunrise Villas development at Half Moon Bay, Frigate Bay.
