St. Kitts and Nevis’ Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor says this Friday’s “A Night to Remember” at the Warner Park Stadium is about taking the twin-island Federation to a new level as the governing Labour Party, marks the 14th Anniversary of the election to office.

“This is the anniversary of our election to office in 1995. It is about giving thanks. It is about acknowledging the contribution that all of us have made and the significant development that has taken place to enhance the quality of life of all the people in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Deputy Prime Minister Condor, a five-term Parliamentary Representative for West Basseterre.

He said that with the Labour Party in Government, all persons and all the constituencies in St. Kitts and in Nevis have benefited.

“By any measure, this Labour Government has been better off for Old Road and for this country. By any measure, Labour has been better. You have to make sure that those programmes continue to the benefit you and your children,” said Mr. Condor.

He pointed out that no country has in the world has escaped the challenges posed by the international economic and financial crisis.

“There are many challenges, but we must continue with our social development programmes that are beneficial to yourself and to your children. You have to make sure that that continues. These are serious times. These are challenging times and challenging times demand capable hands. The only set of capable hands you have in this country are the hands of St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

He made reference to the sustained development that has taken place in the area from Challenges to New Guinea. These include the construction of homes, paving of roads, construction of community centres, a new post office, expansion and construction of schools, upgrade of playing field and recreational facilities  for basketball and football, a new Fisheries Complex, scholarships for students, financing for college and university education.

“We have seen this constituency move by leaps and bounds and this has been done by the stewardship of the present sitting Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Rupert Herbert. He has voluntarily and graciously decided to the retire and has thrown his support behind Glenn “Ghost” Phillip who is equally committed to continue the high level of service and a service of loyalty,” said Minister Condor.

He cautioned about going back to the pre-1995 days. “You know the kind of service that was rendered by the People’s Action Movement.

“Under this Labour Government, the quality of life has improved one hundred fold. As a result of the return of the Labour Party to office, you have seen this constituency move by leaps and bounds. I am sure that you will not want to see a return to the pre 1995 days. You only want to see this country going forward,” said Mr. Condor.

He said that the upcoming election is about credibility, transparency, accountability and performance.

“By any measure, St. Kitts and Nevis has made tremendous strides, tremendous improvement and we want to make sure that we could continue in the areas of housing, education, health, tourism and all areas this Labour Government has been taking this country onwards and forwards,” said Mr. Condor.

He referred to the Labour Government establishment of the Ministry of Culture, resulting in a re-emergence of the cultural identity of the people of this country and the annual Music Festival as further evidence of an administration with vision, initiative, innovation, new programmes and new projects.

“At Warner Park, you would hear about the plans and programmes to take this country forward. You will hear a lot of other announcements about what will happen in the march forward,” said Condor.

“We expect entertainment. We expect the programmes to be outlined. We expect the education, we expect the information. This is going to be a massive rally. A massive function that is of significance and importance to take this country forward,” said Minister Condor
