St. Kitts – Nevis PM Proud Of Efforts To Host CARFITA Games

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Taiwanese Ambassador His Excellency John Liu toured the future home of the 2008 CARIFTA Games at Bird Rock on Tuesday and were impressed with the level of professionalism employed by the local workforce in constructing the facility.

The tour was conducted by Wycliffe Morton Jr. the construction Project Manager of the Bird Rock athletic stadium. He was supported by the general managers of Raymore and Associates and Rock and Dirt, the two local companies constructing the Class 2 track and field facility. Other members of the touring party included Minister of State for Sports Hon. Richard Skerritt and his Permanent Secretary as well as officials from other government agencies and representatives from the local athletic association and organizing committee for the games.

Celebrity Equinox Cruise Ship To Visit St. Kitts – Nevis

With the 2007/2008 cruise ship season carded to bring in over 400,000 passengers to St. Kitts and Nevis, it is expected that the 2008/2009  and 2009/2010 seasons will be busier.

Celebrity Cruises has just announced that its newest ship, the 117,000-ton, 2,850-passenger Celebrity Equinox, the second in the lines’ newest class of ships, sets sail in 2009, will visit St. Kitts mid-summer 2009 and the first quarter of 2010.

On November 5, 2009, the Celebrity Equinox will sail a transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she will subsequently begin a series of alternating 11-and 10-night “Ultimate Caribbean” voyages.

Entrepreneurship A Way To Transform Nevis society

Minister of Social Transformation, Trade and Industry in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel, said entrepreneurship was one critical ingredient that could transform the society and the development of Nevis. 
 
Minister Daniel made the statement on Monday February 25, 2008 during a feature address to signal the start of a week long celebration of Nevis‘ first ever Small Business Week.
 
Mr. Daniel who also holds portfolios for Social and Gender Affairs, made reference to a report on small enterprise development in the region and said that it was critical to the development of women, single mothers, children and young people.  He said support for female business owners, single mothers and poor women who worked to help maintain their families had been found to be one markedly beneficial result of micro credit programme. 
 
These credit programmes he said could benefit and bolster these small enterprises which could yield benefits across a broad range of economies and help them to become more abundant, productive and resilient.

Nevis To Host World-Class Triathlon

Nevis Cycle and Triathlon Club and the island of Nevis are gearing up for the 6th Annual Olympic Triathlon. The event, known as the Carino Health Spa Triathlon, will be held on March 16, 2008; This year is very special, as athletes are gearing up for the Beijing Olympics, the Nevis triathlon has been sanctioned by the world Governing body (ITU) as a Continental Cup event. This means that male and female elite athletes competing will be able to gain valuable points directly applicable to their Olympic campaigns, and puts Nevis on the world map of triathlons.

Most recently Triathlete Magazine has within the last month given invaluable endorsements to the Federation’s most international annual sporting event. Of the thousands of triathlons world wide, Triathlete Magazine named the Nevis triathlon among its top five “Must-Do Races for 2008”.  The same magazine also published a story and photographs in its Feb. 2008 issue about the 2007 race as the centre page spread.
