St. Kitts – Nevis Tourism Growth 2nd Highest In Region

The twin-island Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is forecast to register the second highest growth rate in the tourism sector”¦..an indication that the St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Government’s transition of the economy is bearing fruit.

The World Travel & Tourism Council is forecasting that within the Caribbean, the highest rate of growth this year will be registered by Trinidad and Tobago at 8.4 percent, followed by St. Kitts & Nevis at 5.6 percent and St. Lucia at 5.1 percent.

According to research by Tourism Satellite Accounting for the World Travel & Tourism Council, the forecast calls for the Caribbean’s travel and tourism sector to generate approximately US$57 billion in revenue this year.

Nevis Premier on VON Radio

On Tuesday Nights “Let’s Talk” show on Voice of Nevis(V.O.N) radio, Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry discussed the recent meeting between The Nevis Island Administration (NIA), the Federal Cabinet and the Eastern Caribbean Donor Group (ECDG) with talk show host Mr. Evered “Webbo” Herbert.

“The Nevis Island Administration was available to sit with the Donor Groups and raise issues surrounding a number of activities. In showing assistance to the St.Kitts Island and Nevis Island government we hope to gain more aid with greater efficiency and  delivery.  A number of agencies also showed tremendous interest in the geothermal energy project presently taking place here in Nevis. I have also been invited to Germany to have talks on the geothermal project,” said Premier Parry.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the St.Kitts Marriott Resort. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the significant issues regarding aid and trade issues in the Caribbean.

I have heard the oft repeated mantra by the NRP led Nevis Island Administration that the current exploration underway for geothermal energy will be the saviour for Nevis and that Nevis will become the supplier of electricity for St. Kitts, Anguilla, Saba, St. Maarten and as far away as the United States Virgin Islands. In a recent article in the Herald Newspaper in St. Maarten, the company now undertaking the exploration in Nevis, has raised expectations to astonishing degrees for the geothermal experiment.
