Another sign of confidence in the economy of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says Monday’s opening of a branch of RBBT Caribbean in the TDC Mall on the corner of Central and Fort Streets “is timely as St. Kitts and Nevis propels itself forward as the financial capital of the OECS Economic Union.”

“There is no doubt that St. Kitts and Nevis continues to enjoy tremendous confidence from the regional corporate and banking community,” Prime Minister Douglas said.

Dr. Douglas pointed out that with the prospects for a boom in high-end tourism development on the horizon through the expanding Marriott Vacation Homes International investments in the former Angelus Hotel property, the completion of the first villas of the Ocean Edge Villa Hotel development, the fast-tracked activities surrounding the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Resort as part of the St. Christophe Harbour Development in the South East Peninsula and the start of construction of the Silver Reef Development, together with similar activities in Nevis, the opening of the RBBT branch is timely as St. Kitts and Nevis propels itself forward as the financial capital of the OECS Economic Union.

St. Kitts – Nevis National Bank Earns EC$81m Profit In 2007

The indigenous St. Kitts – Nevis – Anguilla National Bank is reporting a net profit of EC$81 million in 2007 compared to EC$68 million in 2006.

Bank Chairman, Mr. Walford Gumbs in the Annual Report for 2007, released at the recent 37th Annual General Meeting, disclosed that total assets increased to EC$1,935,130,000 or 19.9 percent from EC$1,614,256,000 in 2006, while deposits grew from EC$1,141,913,000 in 2006 to EC$1,290,808,000 or 13 percent in 2007.

He said that the Bank’s loan portfolio increased by EC$132,886,000 or 15.7 percent to EC$979, 357,000 from EC$846,471,000 in 2006.

Mr. Gumbs said the achievements in the Bank’s operations during the year are extremely commendable as this performance surpassed budgetary estimates.

Equipment to the tune of $21,000 was donated to the Community Health Services on Nevis by the Bank of Nevis at a brief handing over ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Administration Building, Charlestown on Tuesday February 26, 2008.
 
In accepting the gifts which include 6 Health-O-Meter scales, 6 examination lamps and 3 Dell computers was Minister of Health of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel recorded the Administration’s gratitude for the bank who partnered in its provision of preventative care for young children and in Port health.
 
“We are indeed grateful for the bank joining us to be able to, as it were do interventive and preventive care with our young children at the Health Centers, so that if there are problems with growth and development of children the equipment provided will be able to help us.  In so far as it relates to Port health and the global exchanges taking place with travel, it is very important for us to be able to track diseases.
