St. Kitts and Nevis is the place to be for golf players and enthusiasts around the Region when it hosts the 56th RBC Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships takes place August 06 to 12, 2012.

At a press briefing on Tuesday (June 19) Lee Bailey, the vice president of the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club explained that this will mark the third time the event will be hosted in the twin island Federation. This is made even more significant considering it is the only country within the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) where the tournament has been staged.

“It speaks to the facilities that exist here on St. Kitts and the people who have helped to organize the event and make it all possible,” Bailey stated.

One hundred and forty players are expected to compete in the 56th Caribbean Championships. Teams from the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Trinidad and a combined OECS squad will participate.

“We in St. Kitts and Nevis are very pleased to be hosting the Caribbean Golf Championships “¦,” Minister responsible for Sports Honourable Glenn Phillip said, noting that the 18-hole championship course at Frigate Bay ““ renovated by Canadian architect Thomas McBroom in 2004 ““ and offers a formidable challenge for any golfer. “The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis recognizes the importance of promoting golf as we actively pursue our sport tourism agenda.”

The Minister noted that the event will also serve to motivate persons involved in the Department of Sports golf summer training programme, which is executed in collaboration with the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club.
