Police Investigate Shooting Incident

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
October 21, 2010

On Thursday 20th October 2010 at approximately 10:05 am police from the Basseterre area responded to a report of shooting in the Newtown area. Police enquiries revealed that a number of gunshots were fired in the Lower Pitciarn Street area where a number of young men were present. The young men fled the area and escaped without injury. However, two vehicles parked nearby sustained damages alleged to have been caused by gunshot. Police officers from the Crime Scene Department processed the scene and collected a number of items they consider to be of evidential value. To date no one has been reported injured as a result of this incident and no one has come forward with an official report of anyone firing shots at them. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

Police Investigate Disorderly Conduct Incident

On Thursday 20th October 2010 at approximately 6:12 pm police from the Basseterre area responded to a report of fighting that was taking place on Pond Road. Police enquiries revealed that a number of young women were fighting and as a result six (6) young women were arrested for disorderly conduct by fighting and one in particular had additional charges of throwing missiles and being armed with offensive weapon. None of the young women sustained any serious injury and no formal charges have been brought as yet but investigators have advised that formal charges will be made as soon as reasonably practicable. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
