Stakeholders in the Christophe Harbour Development met with Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas Tuesday to discuss the way forward for the high-end resort village.
Referring to the investors as partners in the transformation of the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Douglas gave a brief history of economic development as well as a description of the present economy.
He recounted Government’s decision in 2005 to end the 300 year old sugar industry, which was hard hit by the realities of globalization, as well as Government’s present emphasis on tourism, financial services, information technology, manufacturing and diversified agriculture.
Emphasizing the importance of sustainable development, Prime Minister Douglas called on the investors to adhere to standards set by the Government in seeking to preserve the pristine nature of the Federation.
The St. Kitts Nevis Leader recognized the outstanding role played by the group in boosting the tourism industry. He commended them for their marketing efforts in the International arena stating that they would not regret having forged this partnership.
The Prime Minister offered his continued support and wished the stakeholders well in their deliberations.
