St. Kitts – Nevis Expects Growth In Manufacturing Sector

One of the major manufacturing companies at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Estate is to move one of its production lines from Brazil in South America to St. Kitts next year.

This has been disclosed by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas during Tuesday’s Budget Address.

Prime Minister Douglas in reviewing the outcome of the manufacturing sector in the twin-island Federation said that a number of existing enterprises also expanded their operations in response to continued economic expansion in the United States of America, which is a major market for the output of this sector.

He said Kajola Kristada Ltd, home to the cable traps, filters and connectors since May 1999, introduced two new product lines and employed an additional 25 workers in 2007.

Kajola Kristada provides the small cylindrical devices that are fitted unto cable TV wires to allow cable TV subscribers to see certain channels, or block out those who do not subscribe and is the number one provider of CATV Traps to some of the biggest players in the Cable/Communications industry including AT&T, AOL and COMCAST.

Prime Minister Douglas also said that Lutron Liamuiga Ltd, also on the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site and which manufactures dimmers to control lighting, introduced 75 new products/models in 2007. The local company this year received an award for quality and production from its parent company in the United States of America.

Dr. Douglas said that Harrow Servo, which is situated at Bourkes, Sandy Point, employed 20 new employees during 2007, introduced a new product line and is projecting a 15 percent increase in production in 2008.

Jaro, on the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site, employed 93 new workers and expanded its existing transformer production line, while Reed Data Services, also expanded its operations and recruited 60 new employees in 2007.

Prime Minister Douglas said that the St. Kitts Bottling Company Ltd has been penetrating a number of regional markets and it expects to expand its range of products to include diet products, flavoured water, juices and franchised water.
