Locals have one last opportunity to support the national team representing the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis before they leave for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
National Director Clarice Cotton told SKNIS that the Board is committed to ensuring the participation of the local athletes at the June 24 to July 4 event and has appealed to residents to contribute to a walkathon – the final fund raising effort.
The walkathon scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 17, will see members, athletes, coaches, volunteers and well wishers traversing the streets from the roundabout at Camps, along the F. T. Williams Highway, into Greenlands and ending at the Cotton-Thomas Comprehensive School.
“This is an effort to raise much needed funds,” Ms. Cotton stated, noting that the global economic challenges has significantly impacted donations. “This is a very important event to our Nation as we come together with the international community to celebrate diversity and promote peace, love and tolerance.”
The National Director of Special Olympics thanked the Government specifically the Ministries of Sports and Tourism as well as primary sponsor Digicel for the continued commitment given to the Special Olympic movement and its athletes from both St. Kitts and Nevis. She also extended appreciation to other companies and individuals who have supported the worthy cause.
