Tropical Garden Contest To Be Held
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
August 30, 2015 (SKNIS)
The Ministry of Tourism‘s Best Village Competition promises to see the beautification and display of pride within communities while encouraging individuals to work together towards a common goal.
The competition is part of this year’s independence festivities and will be held under the theme Closer, Cleaner Communities.
The Ministry has stated that for the purposes of this competition, the term “village” has been uniquely defined as it takes into consideration the culture of settlements being born out of estates, towns and housing developments.
In order to accomplish the vision of community cohesion, areas where individuals reside have been grouped together based on geographic location, cultural relevance and social cohesion in order to determine the village.
The competition is made up of two award categories, the Best Village Award and the Individual Awards. The Best Village Award consists of seven categories while there are four open categories for individual winners.
For the overall Best Village competition, only one registration form can be submitted per area. As such, it is imperative that the community members work as a team to determine the best entries to submit. Nomination for the individual categories can be done by an individual or group from the area.
To be considered for judging in the Best Village Category, the village must complete in five of the seven categories including Best Community Culture Spot, Junior Best Village, Best Home Garden, Best Clean and Green Area, Best Kept Neighborhood, Best Kept Street and Environmental Initiative which includes pledges to undertake positive actions.
The opportunity will also be presented for individuals to nominate persons in various categories for an award. These categories include, Best Community Entertainment Spot, Village Grandparent, Best Village Shop and People’s Project.
Registration for the Overall Best Village Competition must be done by September 4. Registration for the individual categories must also be done by August 31 while write ups should be submitted and posted no later than September 8. Judging takes place on National Heroes’ Day, September 16, while announcement of winners will be made on September 21.
