A new Bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre has been announced.

Senior parish priest, Father Bernard Latus informed Catholics Sunday morning that he has received information on the new Bishop for St. John’s-Basseterre.

“I am very pleased to inform you that at 12:00 noon today, Saturday November 19, 2011, (07:00AM Caribbean time), the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI announced, in Rome, the election of Msgr. Kenneth Richards, as the new Bishop of the Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre. Bishop-elect Kenneth Richards is a priest from the Archdiocese of Kingston, Jamaica and its former Vicar General,” said the Most Reverend Gabriel Malzaire, Apostolic Administrator, and St. John’s-Basseterre.

“The date of the ordination Bishop-elect Kenneth Richards will be announced subsequently, as soon as plans are finalized,” said Rev. Malzaire, the Bishop of Roseau, Dominica, welcomed Bishop-elect Kenneth Richards to the episcopate on behalf of all the bishops of the Antilles Episcopal Conference.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre, comprising the islands of Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands.
