Clearing of the land for the US$40 million 246-room hotel/condo Pirate’s Nest in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts has begun.

Project Manager Mr. Lung Ho told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) on Wednesday that heavy equipment is on the site.

“We are cutting the roads and removing the debris and vegetation in preparation for the building of the foundations,” said Mr. Ho.

The development, which is expected to become a part of the vibrant tourism infrastructure coming out of the policies that the St. Kitts – Nevis Government has encouraged and facilitated, will be built on a 7.1 acre site.

Forty-one condominium units will be contained in six independent buildings each with three floors.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony in December last year, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas noted that tourism is a most competitive area of endeavor and the government decided years ago to enter it with a clear and confident competitive spirit.

“The developments that continue to go up on this island is evidence that we have created a winning combination of business and other policies,” Prime Minister Douglas said.

“Mindful of the striking topography of St. Kitts, the attractiveness of this particular part of the island, the pro-business, pro-public policies and programs that this government has put in place, T-Loft Development has decided to join Ross University, Golden Rock Commercial Park, Christophe Harbour, Imperial Bay, Koi Resorts, Oceans Edge, Silver Reef, Marriott Residences, the Park Hyatt and so many others who have decided that St. Kitts is a place in which the skills exist to transform their development dreams into reality, in which the business environment facilitates a positive return on one’s investment, in which the social, economic, and political realities found here reward the decision to invest,” Dr. Douglas said.

The St. Kitts and Nevis leader noted that construction represents an important economic stimulus the world over.

“It employs nationals who possess a vast range of skills. It generates new revenue streams for the local corporations that provide the materials without which major construction projects would not be possible. And it generates valuable business opportunities for those who provide the services on which projects such as this depend,” Dr. Douglas said.

He pointed out that once the construction phase of T-Loft Property Development has been completed, the 246-room condominium project that will require an entirely new range of employees and service providers.

“It will continue to depend on the products that are provided by this country’s large corporations. And the individuals and families who will become homeowners in this development will most assuredly patronize our car dealerships, our car rental agencies, our taxi-drivers, our landscapers, our artists, our accountants, our lawyers, our restaurants, our supermarkets, plant nurseries and the list is really quite extensive,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He affirmed that the policies of his government, the atmosphere of the island, the skills of the people, and that distinctively quality that makes St. Kitts unique continue to attract more and more visitors to the Federation.

The Prime Minister said he is satisfied that visitors that continue to come to St. Kitts and Nevis by ship and by plane “are compelling evidence that St. Kitts is, indeed, registering, and registering at a very high level, in the global tourism market.”

He disclosed that T-Loft Property Development has applied for, and has been approved as, a participant in the country’s Citizenship By Investment Programme.
