Rice and peas was adopted from the Akan tribe hailing from Ghana and Ivory Coast in West Africa. The dish, which still exists in those countries today, is known as Waakye and of course consists of the usual rice and peas. Anybody who has visited my web site, knows that The Oualie Beach Hotel is my absolute favorite place on Nevis to visit. On my very first visit to Nevis I fell in love with the beach, food, drinks, and most importantly the staff at Oualie….not to mention the “regulars” who hang out here. To me Oualie says “Nevis”! From the “locals”, ex-pats, tourists, and frequent visitors to Nevis that drop in to Oualie, you can really get a view of what Nevis is all about.
